Partridge in a Pear Tree

I couldn’t sleep this morning so I got up a bit early and discovered a “marathon” of The Partridge Family on TVLand. How many of you wanted to date Keith Partridge? Come on, raise up your hands. Okay, for you guys, did you want to date Laurie? Great, that’s better. I liked Keith, okay, but I wanted to be a Partridge. Not that there was anything wrong with my family, but they got to ride on that bus, and sing and go to really neat places.

Did you want to be a Brady? I am trying to remember if I did. I don’t think I did, but it would have been fun to be their neighbor. I wouldn’t have minded having Alice as my maid and Mike and Carol as my parents. I never wanted to date the boys, maybe at that time I was too young to care about that kind of thing. I thought they were a bit, oh, I don’t know what the word is. Now, of course, I look back and think they were square.

I don’t think there was anyone on TV that was equal to my family. It would be weird to have seen a family with three kids (just girls, at that), going to school, coming home, playing in the yard, watching TV going to bed and then waking up the next morning repeating the previous day’s events. Except on Thursdays, Girl Scouts. Does that mean we were boring. I never thought so growing up. But comparing to families on TV in 1970s…SNOREFEST.

There is one good thing about it. I never ended up in drug rehab, like brother Bobby. I never wanted to date my mother, like Greg. I never disappeared from the face of the Earth, like Chris and Tracy. AND, I never refused to come home for a Christmas special because I didn’t want to be typecast like Cindy.

What TV family did you love?

  1. Except Chris didn't "disappear!" Well, he did for awhile, until he was seen on a reality show for a few years on VH1! He started off on the Surreal Life, Season 4 on VH1, where he met his future "wife" Adrianne Curry, who was also a guest star in the S.L. mansion. They garnered a spin-off called "My Fair Brady," which chronicled their relationship, and ultimately their wedding.

For now, he's a game-show host for the Michigan Lottery: Make Me Rich.
